Randy Schimka and his 16-year-old son, Brandon, recently embarked on an electrifying road trip.

The pair left San Diego went on a seven-day, 850-mile road trip to San Luis Obispo with the all-electric Nissan LEAF.

Schimka made it a priority to map out multiple charging locations along the way. He decided the best way to go about the trip was to make short frequent stops to recharge the car. While the car was charging, the pair ate, walked around and did some sightseeing.

Randy Schimka said, “We never felt like we were waiting excessively [for a charge] since we were busy walking around and checking out the local sights.”

During their charging pit-stops, only one location in Solvang required a $1.25 per hour fee, the rest of the stations were free.

Schimka was the 10th person in the U.S. to own a Nissan LEAF. He now works as a manager with SDG&E’s clean transportation team, where he helps other customers connect with the many benefits of owning an electric vehicle.

During their road trip, Schimka and his son visited Santa Barbara, Paso Robles, Morro Bay and See Canyon.
